Here's an article that was in this morning's Wichita Eagle titled, Suddenly Clinics are Flush with Flu Vaccine... here's a tidbit:
Rod Watson had to cancel 1,000 flu-shot clinics in four states when the national vaccine shortage cut off his supply two months ago. Now Watson has flu shots aplenty -- and not enough patients seem to want them. "My biggest fear is I'm gong to end up with a lot of serum, and there's a national shortage," said Watson
Who needs market prices when we have such deeply caring, thoughtful and smart experts working on our behalf? After all, a price is just a stupid number that's set by a bunch of self-interested producers and consumers, right? How do we know they aren't morons? How could you possibly leave the lives of children and elderly to a cold, impersonal distribution process like a market?
Somehow the right amount of food, products and services shows up on the shelves and in the yellow pages as a result of this market process. Why would we want to let that happen with Flu vaccine?
Sorry for the dripping sarcasm -- the arrogance of planners can get pretty frustrating for me sometimes.
