The Wisdom of Crowds

Here's something I love about my Atlanta experience so far... From my condo complex I go out into a sunny, crisp Sunday morning and walk down to the corner Starbucks. Five minutes later I am sitting in a deep, comfortable chair sipping a venti dark roast coffee with two shots of espresso, a little milk, a little cinnamon, and just a bit of splenda (no comments from the peanut gallery of coffee naturalists), and there's a big fat copy of the New York Times Sunday edition on my lap.

Awesome.

In today's paper, business section, under the title, "Here's an Idea: Let Everyone Have Ideas,"(subscription req'd) comes an article with this fantastic quote at the end of it:

"There's nothing wrong with experience," said Mr. Marino, the company's president. "The problem is when experience gets in the way of innovation. As founders, the one thing we know is that we don't know all of the answers."

The article is about Rite-Solutions Inc.'s unique approach to innovation - using a marketplace inside the firm where employees can "invest" in ideas. It's right out of James Surowiecki's The Wisdown of Crowds. Highly recommended - the book, the article, and the approach.

Cheers.
